Mind Dump, Day 4
Saturday write up
Got to sleep in which was awesome and greatly needed. About 9.5 hours in bed. Got the venue for briefing I the slug event. Had some time to kill, so I went to the vendor village with Marcus Filly to pick up our free Compex unit. We got swarmed a little bit by people wanting pictures but it wasn’t too bad, not Noah Ohlsen level yet haha. Warmed up for the event but didn’t do much, pushed a ghd machine on rubber, did one rope climb, and a thorough amount of running drills. I felt like this was my event to win if I played it right.
Started out steady, climbing that berm was so hard on already sore legs. I sprinted on the way down though which was a huge key. On the rope climbs I just tried to stay patient with my pinch after starting them legless. If I freaked out when I missed the pinch on the first attempt it would be disastrous. The slug was a great test. The first 1.5feet push was weightless… Then it was a steady grind. Halfway on each push your shoulders were fried but you had to keep going. The second and third berm were vey tough but I knew how short it was so I had to push. Sager went out fast, if he would’ve held that pace i was ok with him beating me haha. I knocked out my last two climbs real quick to ensure I beat Vellner! Satisfying win. Shoved ice down my underwear to cool down before getting interviewed.
Ring hspu were announced, strict. Damn.
Practiced a few tricks in the warmup area and a couple squats.
Went onto the floor with the goal of just doing my best. I did just that and left very satisfied even tho it was a low rank.
My coach thought I might be upset after the event but I wasn’t at all. The judge was tough but fair and consistent. I could feel the difference between my good and bad reps and I knew what she wanted. Some people said she was stricter than other judges but I don’t care. All good.
Next event announced. Another one I knew I could win.
Loosened up the calves. Simple warmup. Took care of business. Calves started to cramp a bit on the last 10 jumps so I slowed down a bit. I could hear the announcer saying I was just around the lead so I just tried to keep bending over and picking up that ball. Jumped up for the win, like a boss. But slipped on that soaking wet platform haha.
Early brief tomorrow. Bed time.
Plan tomorrow is to do my best. I haven’t really been checking the leaderboard, just glancing to make sure I’m in the top heat. I’ll do the same tomorrow. Don’t want to over-exert myself past my limits to try and chase some placing. Just do my best within my abilities and let the cards fall where they fall.
Thanks for the support people!
